ConGen Cortes said that the ASEAN has come a long way in building a unified community. “Not only are we a 660 million strong economy, we are also a 660 million strong culture. A repository of the rich and varied history and heritage of the ASEAN people all trying to show the whole world exactly what sort of unified and structured and forward-looking regional initiative we are. We have been the envy of many regional organizations across the world because we have shown how it is to be diverse yet unified, different yet the same in our vision as a people, as a race, as a culture,” said Cortes.

The ASEAN was formed in August 8, 1957 with the five founding countries as they aimed to formalize and promote economic cooperation, peace, and regional stability.
