Over 200 Abu Dhabi-based OFWs pass TESDA certifications

More than 200 Abu Dhabi-based OFWs had their skills certified by TESDA in the fields of Caregiving, Massage Therapy, Electrical Installation and Maintenance NC II and Trainer’s Methodology for assessors with a passing rate of 81.79% that took place in an onsite assessment and certification program for OFWs at the newly opened Pinoy Overseas Workers’ Education and Reintegration (POWER).

Labor Attache Atty. Ophelia Almenario was satisfied with the results and hopes that more Filipinos will take advantage of opportunities like this to give a boost to their credentials. “It’s a good sign. It means that OFWs here are very interested in upskilling and upgrading their expertise,” said Almenario.

TESDA Deputy Director General for Partnerships and Linkages Rebecca Calzado who personally came to Abu Dhabi to witness the assessment together with a team of assessors from the Philippines also mentioned the importance of having the National Certificate 2 (NC2): “Each and every one that is able to pass the assessment and avail of the National Certtificate which is a government issued certificate that attests the competencies that an individual has, we believe that this is a big plus in your respective works or careers that you have chosen,”

She also hinted of the possibility for TESDA Director-General General Guiling “Gene” Mamondiong himself to visit the UAE soon: “Asahan po ninyo na isang araw ay makakarating din po siya sa Abu Dhabi para siya na mismo ang makausap ng ating Filipino community.”

Philippine Embassy Charge d’affaires Rowena Pangilinan-Daquipil wished to thank the team behind POWER for making the onsite assessment a success: “Ang ganda po ng ginawa ninyo dito – ang dami pong kababayan na magaling. We know that they are skilled. They have learned the ropes through experience, through on the ground, sabak agad. And then over the years they have learned the skills but yet, we need that document to show to everyone, to the public that they are qualified.”

In attendance during the opening day were Philippine Embassy Charge d’affaires Rowena Pangilinan-Daquipil, Labor Attache Ophelia Almenario, Assistant Labor Attache Jay Jasper Javines, TESDA Deputy Director General for Partnerships and Linkages Rebecca Calzado, together with the partners and owners of POWER.

TESDA Assessment in Abu Dhabi – 2018 statistics:
Passing rate – 81.79% over 200 OFWs
Caregiving: 135 certified out of 165 assessed
Massage Therapy: 24 certified out of 34 assessed
EIM: 72 certified out of 83 assessed
Trainer’s Methodology 1 for assessors: 7 certified out of 9 assessed
