Over 100,000 overstaying overseas Filipino workers in the UAE are expected to benefit from the three-month-long amnesty scheme of the Gulf country, according to the Department of Labor and Employment.

In a statement released by the department, Labor Secretary Silvestre Bello III urged all overstaying OFWs in the UAE to avail of the said amnesty for them to be repatriated to the Philippines.

“Pinapayuhan ko ang lahat ng undocumented, distressed, at overstaying na mga OFW na kumuha ng amnestiya na alok ng gobyerno ng UAE upang maging ligal ang kanilang pananatili o bumalik sa Pilipinas para sa kanilang kapakanan. Handa ang ating pamahalaan upang bigyan sila ng ayuda kung naisin nilang umuwi sa bansa,” Bello said.

OFWs who would like to avail the amnesty can seek help at the Philippine Embassy, as well as the Philippine Overseas Labor Office in Abu Dhabi at Dubai.

DOLE noted that there are at least 646,258 documented OFWs in the UAE; 224,572 of which are based in Abu Dhabi while 421,686 more are in Dubai.

OFWs who would like to go home to the Philippines will also receive airport and cash assistance from the Overseas Workers Welfare Administration (OWWA).

Aside from that, they will also be provided with local and overseas employment referral, livelihood assistance, legal and conciliation service, competency assessment and training assistance under DOLE Assist WELL (Welfare, Employment, Legal and Livelihood) Program.
