Overseas Filipino workers (OFWs) are President Rodrigo Duterte’s favorite Filipinos, said Department of Labor and Employment (DOLE) secretary Silvestre Bello III, urging them to take advantage of how the president feels for them.
Bello said Duterte claims that the Duterte administration is committed to protect the welfare of OFWs, including those based in the UAE, and that OFWs are Duterte’s topmost priority.
It can be recalled that during the 2016 presidential election, Duterte garnered the most number of votes from OFW voters, including in the UAE, with no other presidential candidate close behind.
As per Commission on Elections (Comelec) Commissioner Rowena Guanzon, Duterte led the presidential race after garnering 313,346 votes during the overseas absentee voting (OAV).
“Kayo ang paborito niyang mga Pilipino. So, take advantage of how the president feels for you. In the meantime, stay happy and stay safe,” Bello said.
Among Duterte’s accomplishments for OFWs include the establishment of the OFW Bank, signing of several bilateral deals protecting the welfare of OFWs in their host countries, one-stop-shop for OFW concerns, and inking of deals offering jobs overseas for aspiring OFWs.
