OFW hotel kitchen staff arrested for stabbing workmate to death

An overseas Filipino worker (OFW) in Saudi Arabia was arrested for stabbing a Tunisian national to death on July 2.

The 48-year-old unnamed Filipino was working as a hotel kitchen staff, Consul General in Jeddah, Saudi Arabia, Edgar Badajos, told ABS-CBN News.

Citing reports from their preliminary investigation, Badajos said the two workers’ argument escalated to physical altercation when the Tunisian victim punched the Filipino in the head. The latter got back and stabbed him.

“Ang defense ng ating kababayan ay self-defense kasi nga sinuntok siya sa ulo eh,” Badajos said.

The Consulate has assured that legal assistance will be provided to the OFW as they continue to monitor the developments in his case.

“Ang aming message to the family at sa ating mga kababayang sumusubaysay sa kasong ito, of course, we are providing assistance to our kababayan, giving him legal representation to ensure he will get a fair trial,” Badajos said.

The OFW from Laguna, who has been working in Saudi for 9 years, is currently detained as investigation continues.
