Maid stands trial for allegedly stealing Dh44,000, jewelries from employer in Dubai

The Dubai Court of First Instance heard the case of a Filipina housemaid who has been accused of stealing cash, jewelry, and other valuables from her employer.

The 33-year-old Filipina was accused by her Emirati employer of stealing cash worth Dh 44,000, three bracelets, four rings, a necklace, three watches, a pair of earrings and a wallet, reported Khaleej Times.

The complainant narrated that she used to put money inside her safe but the amount would dwindle over time. She initially thought that she’s only becoming forgetful. But on May 24, she noticed that a hefty amount of the money inside the safe went missing again.

The complainant immediately filed a report at the Bur Dubai Police Station.

When the police came to search the complainant’s house, they were able to retrieve pieces of jewelry under the bed of the Filipina maid.

The accused denied committing theft saying that she had no idea about the valuables found in her room. Forensic experts were then summoned to get fingerprints from the scene. The maid was also taken into custody. Some money deposit receipts found in her possession were also seized and will be used as evidence.

The trial has been adjourned to August 6.
