A 46-year-old Filipina domestic helper in Dubai will be spending three months behind bars for using her flat as a gambling den.
She will also pay a fine worth Dh100,000 (approx. P1.4 million) and will immediately be deported after serving the jail term, reported Khaleej Times.
Authorities raided her flat in Al Satwa on May 12, 2017 after a reliable source informed them about the Filipina’s illegal activities. The police then arrested five individuals who had connections to the case.
During the investigations, the Filipina admitted she sublet her flat to her accomplices for Dh100 so that they can gamble there. The five arrested individuals seconded the maid’s statement, adding that she was aware they they were using her place for gambling purposes.
After the raid, money and gambling tools were confiscated from the scene.
The Filipina can appeal the verdict within 15 days.
