Netizens have split sides over the Chiong sisters’ rape case. With the screening of the new movie, Jacqueline Comes Home, netizens’ curiosity peaked as to what exactly transpired in 1997.

The debut film of Ysabelle Peach Caparas stirred intrigue by claiming that it would be bias-free and will focus on the family drama.

However, before the film’s showing, some netizens urged to boycott the film and watch “Give up Tomorrow” instead, a documentary directed by the relative of Francisco “Paco” Larrañaga, the suspect for the case.

Meanwhile, the movie’s lead actress Donnalyn Bartolome got bashed for her acting and for “not researching before she accepted the role”. She explained that the cast was also unaware of the ending and shifted the blame to the production company.

The Chiong Sisters’ rape case is one of the most high-profile cases in the country. Aside from Jacqueline Comes Home, Carlo Caparas also directed Humanda ka Mayor!: Bahala na ang Diyos, a loose adaptation of another high-profile case, Sarmenta-Gomez rape-slay.
