Prosecutors call life sentence for Pinoy who murdered young woman 14 yrs ago

Prosecutors of a Japanese court want life sentence for Filipino who admitted to raping and killing a Japanese university student in January 2004.

The prosecutors said Lampano Jerico Mori, 36, the Filipino involved in the murder of a 21-year-old student of Ibaraki University 14 years ago, killed the young woman to cover up the rape that happened beforehand.

Mori’s lawyer, however, said Mori should only be given limited term for his remorse for killing the woman.

Earlier, Mori admitted to raping and killing the Japanese woman. Mori added that he had two other FIlipino accomplices during the crime.

Mori’s counsel said the “young” Mori only committed the crime due to his accomplices’ influence.

The rape-murder case of January 2004

Mori, and his two other Filipino accomplices, abducted the student while walking along a street in Ami, Ibaraki Prefecture before raping and choking her on January 31, 2004. The suspects then stabbed the victim multiple times at a riverbank in a nearby village.

Mori was arrested in September 2017 while working at a factory in Gifu Prefecture.

Meanwhile, the two accomplices, who were minors at the time of the crime, fled Japan after committing the crime and are currently on an international wanted list. Japanese authorities, however, are having a hard time locating the other suspects as Japan and the Philippines have yet to sign an extradition treaty.

During the hearing, prosecutors presented that the DNA found on the hands of the victim “almost matched” Mori’s DNA.
