DFA issues warning vs sellers of passport appointment slots online

The Department of Foreign Affairs (DFA) on Thursday, July 19, issued a warning against sellers of passport appointment dates on social media.

DFA issued the warning following reports of social media accounts offering passport applicants passport appointment dates in exchange of cash.

“The DFA does not offer passport appointment slots through social media accounts (e.g., Facebook, Twitter, etc.), and does not own nor is associated with any websites and Facebook accounts other than its official websites and social media accounts,” the statement read.

DFA reminded the public that passport-related concerns should only be directed to the following online sites:
www.dfa.gov.ph
www.passport.gov.ph
www.consular.dfa.gov.ph
– Facebook: www.facebook.com/dfaphl
– Twitter: @DFAPHL

Earlier this year, DFA’s appointment system faced backlash after applicants reported a difficulty in booking appointment dates.

Ricarte Abejuela III, acting director of the DFA’s Passport Division attributed the problem to the high demand due to surge of applicants who wish to have their passports processed.

Meanwhile, Foreign affairs secretary Alan Peter Cayetano promised better services from the DFA starting June as the department continues to improve its services and as it acquires new equipment.
