PH passport ranking drops to 72nd spot

The Philippine dropped two places from its previous rank of 70 earlier this year to the 72nd spot, based on the latest Henley Passport Index.

Despite its drop in ranking, it is still the seventh strongest passport in Southeast Asia. The number of visa-free destinations also remain to be 66.

The 2018 Henley Passport Index surveyed 199 passports of 277 countries, territories, and micro-states. It stated that it “looked into the travel freedom of countries based on an authoritative database of travel information.”

“The index is innovating how travel freedom is measured and mapped, making it easier for individuals to understand where exactly they lie on the spectrum of global mobility,” added. Henley Global, the global citizenship and residence advisory firm which created the index.

Japan and Singapore now share the top spot among the strongest passports in the world.

Passport holders from both countries can go to 189 destinations with visa-free or visa-on-arrival access.
