OFW accuses employer of hitting her with bat

An overseas Filipina worker (OFW) in Kuwait is crying for help after her employer allegedly hit her with a bat.

OFW Maricris Matias Ledesma sustained injuries and scars on her legs, arms, back, and feet.

Ledesma’s family said the OFW has been rescued and is currently in the custody of Philippine Embassy in Kuwait after notifying the Overseas Workers Welfare Administration (OWWA), reported GMA News.

She is set to file charges against her employer for the abuse she suffered during her employment.

Even after the signing of the labor deal between the Philippines and Kuwait, a number of abuses against OFW domestic helpers have been reported.

The two countries signed an agreement that will protect the welfare of the OFWs in Kuwait, which was signed on May 11.

The labor deal states that domestic helpers need to be provided with proper clothing, food, and accommodation. They should also be allowed to keep their cellphones so they can communicate for help in cases of emergency.

Abuse towards OFWs is also strictly prohibited, the deal states.
