Abu Dhabi, Dubai out of 25 most expensive cities to live in

An annual worldwide cost of living survey revealed that cost of living in Abu Dhabi and Dubai continues to decline as rent cost falls, making the emirates more cost-friendly for expatriates.

The Mercer’s annual cost of living survey revealed that Abu Dhabi and Dubai are now out of the top 25 most expensive cities to live in.

From number 22, Abu Dhabi is now ranked number 40 while Dubai fell to number 26 from number 19 last year.

The drop in the emirates’ rankings is attributed to the decrease in the cost of rental accommodations in the Middle East region.

“On the whole, most Middle Eastern cities have dropped in the ranking due to decreases in rental accommodation costs throughout the region,” said Yvonne Traber, global mobility product solutions leader at Mercer.

Among the top 5 most expensive cities to live in are Hong Kong, Tokyo, Zurich, Singapore, and Seoul. Meanwhile, the cheapest cities to live in are Karachi in Pakistan, Banjul in Gambia, Bishkek in Kyrgyzstan, Tunis in Tunisia, and Tashkent in Uzbekistan.
