DUBAI: Efforts by the General Directorate for Residency and Foreigners Affairs (GDRFA) to get closer to the various expat communities in Dubai through a smart app allowing for inquiries to be channeled to the agency’s head has been making headway.

Dubbed, “Contact General Director,” the program has become “very efficient and effective,” said GDRFA with His Excellency, Major General Mohammed Ahmed Al Marri, Director General of the GDRFA in Dubai, receiving 601 emails from January until May this year, compare to 858 emails for the whole of 2017.

Questions, complaints or suggestions can be easily sent through “Contact General Director” service, which launched in 2013 through the GDRFA Dubai website (dnrd.ae). “Clients can now communicate directly with the general director and get the required information in record time,” said GDRFA.

This service is also available in GDRFA Dubai smart app.

The GDRFA app can be downloaded from the Apple app or Google Android store. The app provides a number of services such as the renewal of family residencies or visas and lodging inquiries about visa status.

H.E Al-Marri said the messages received through the “Contact General Director” service varied between inquiries, requests for exemption, comments, complaints and suggestions. Inquiries received the largest number among the total number of messages received through the service, said GDRFA. The number of inquiries in from January until May this year reached 447 compared to 505 for the whole of last year.

Meantime, GDRFA also announced that it was able to complete 21,508 entry and residence permits transactions during the just-concluded Eid break where the agency was opened but for the days. In addition, the number of entry and exit movements through air, land and sea ports reached 815,725 during Eid al-Fitr holiday which lasted for 4 days. While the number of smart gate users reached 84,626 during Eid holiday, which facilitated the process of traffic through Dubai airports.
