Dubai, UAE – A record-breaking 40,000 people flocked at the celebration of the 120th Independence Day at Dubai World Trade Center (DWTC) held June 15, according to official estimates.
The crowd enjoyed fun-filled programs lined up which included exciting games with door prizes like tickets to Philippines by Philippine Airlines and cash; a beauty pageant – Hiyas ng Pilipinas 2018, battle of the bands, dance shows; and job fairs.
There were 60 booths led by Fiesta Pinoy, a specialty restaurant catering to Filipinos in the UAE which has always been a fixture of Philippine Independence Day celebration in the past years. Other booths include Emirates NBD, LBC, Toyota, Tabeer Tourism, Shakey’s, CMG Cargo, UAE Exchange, Filinvest, Max’s Restaurant and Chowking among others.
Concert King Martin Nievera along with Filipina actress and “rockista” Arci Munoz brought down the house with their remarkable performances. Belting the tunes from the 80’s and the latest songs, the crowd sang with them and was left awe-inspired – and very much entertained.
Some 3,000 people flocked to the jobs fair booth jointly organized by the Unified Filipino HR Professionals, Filipino HR Club and FICN Inter-Church Sports Fellowship under FilCom, organizer of the event. There were about 500 job vacancies announced.
Filipino expats also showed their competitive side as they trooped the booth of Emirates NBD and participated in Eat-Bulaga’s most popular and iconic game ‘Pinoy Henyo’. Approximately 10 hopeful pairs battled off to win the grand prize of Dh10,000 in cash.
Top executives from Emirates NBD awarded cash prizes to four lucky winners: (Grand Prize AED5,000/each winners) Cristina Ferrer Cuneto and John Paolo Quijano Okol; (2nd Prize AED2,500/each winners) Junnifer Roa Maldo and Melanie Milan Madali.
