Maid jailed after stealing items worth Dh500,000 from sponsor’s house

A Filipina housemaid from Dubai was apprehended after stealing several valuable items worth Dh500,000 from her Emirati sponsor’s house.

Public prosecution records show that the 34-year-old Filipina housemaid stole 12 perfume bottles, laptop, designer bag, five rings, eight bracelets, two necklaces, earrings, cosmetics, three mobile phones and four watches, which are collectively worth Dh500,000, reported Khaleej Times.

She was reported to Al Barsha Police and was sentenced to one year in jail by the Court of First Instance after she was found guilty of workplace theft. The Filipina will then be deported after her time in jail.

The family first called for the police back in January 31, 2018 after the son of the Emirati sponsor revealed that the housemaid stole a necklace.

The 56-year-old housewife of the Emirati sponsor said that the police found the stolen necklace in the belongings of the Filipina housemaid, together with other stolen items that belonged to her daughters.

However, the police did not arrest her during that time.

The family summoned the police once again on February 10 and requested for the maid’s arrest.

The Filipina pleaded guilty during the police questioning and the public prosecution investigation.

The court ruling has been appealed.
