Does Mocha Uson still have Duterte’s trust? Palace answers

Malacañang on Thursday, June 7, said President Rodrigo Duterte continues to trust Communications Assistant Mocha Uson despite her refusal to follow his order to apologize to TV host Kris Aquino.

Presidential spokesperson Harry Roque said presidential officials, including Uson, enjoys the trust of the President.

“She hasn’t been fired. For as long as she hasn’t been fired, she enjoys the trust and confidence, because all presidential appointees serve at the pleasure of the president,” Roque said during a press briefing.

Roque refused to comment on the issue and said Special Assistant to the President (SAP) Bong Go may have more knowledge on the issue.

The issue started after Uson compared an old clip of Ninoy Aguino showing some Filipina kissing the late senator, with the video of President Rodrigo Duterte kissing a Filipina in South Korea that recently sparked backslash.

The clip of Ninoy was taken during his flight to Manila, moments before he was shot dead at the tarmac of the Ninoy Aquino International Airport.

The edited clip includes the following texts: “Masagwa daw ito” (Duterte kissing a Filipina) “Pero ito pwede? Paki-explain!” (clip of women kissing Ninoy).

The late senator’s daughter said that Uson should have thought how this video stirs bitter memories when their family, especially her mother, the late president Corazon “Cory” Aquino, lost their father without those last kisses.

Following the release of the video, Duterte, through Go, apologized to Aquino for the “malicious” video.

Reportedly, he also ordered Uson to apologize to Aquino.

On Wednesday, June 6, Uson uploaded a video on Facebook where she said the video she posted on Facebook is not about Kris. She, however, evaded to issue any apology.

Hours after Uson’s “apology,” Aquino posted a 17-minute long Facebook Live video to respond to Uson’s video.

Aquino emphasized that she will no longer dig deeper into the issue because she has nothing against President Duterte.

However, she countered Uson’s argument by saying that the matter will most definitely be about her since the people being attacked are her late parents.
