PNP to public: If you have nothing to hide, you have nothing to fear

The leadership of the Philippine National Police (PNP) sees no reason for the public to fear the proposed national identification (ID) system unless a person has committed an illegal act.

Information which will be printed on the card includes the bearer’s unique Philippine Identification System or PhilSys number, full name, sex, blood type, date of birth, place of birth, marital status, address, and a front facing photo.

PNP chief Director General Oscar Albayalde said: “We see nothing wrong with having a national ID dahil mukhang tayo na nga lang ang bansang wala nito.”

The Senate on Tuesday ratified the bicameral conference committee report on the bill seeking to establish the Philippine Identification System, or Philsys.

It aims to “harmonize, integrate, and interconnect the country’s many government IDs by establishing a single national identification system”.

Albayalde added: “With this, at least alam natin those without a ID and those who did not apply for one may problema and we can single them out.”
