Expat gropes Asian saleswoman in mall’s elevator

A Dubai court has heard on May 23 the case of a jobless man who groped a saleswoman in a mall.

The complainant, a Filipino saleswoman, said that the incident happened in April. She was on her way to work and passed through a shopping mall. She stepped inside the mall’s elevator to go to the first floor, reported Gulf News.

The suspect, a 26-year-old Afghan, then entered the same elevator, greeted the Filipina, and asked details about herself, court records showed.

While they were inside the elevator, the man allegedly groped the Filipina without her consent before rushing out.

The suspect was immediately apprehended after the Filipina reported the incident to authorities.

Prosecutors charged the suspect with groping the woman twice.

The Afghan man pleaded guilty before the Dubai Court of First Instance, but he presented presiding judge Fahd Al Shamsi a written waiver, which he claimed was obtained from the complainant.

The suspect also asked for “mercy” in court.

The court’s decision regarding the incident will be heard on June 6.
