A lawyer called on Malacañang, the Senate, and the House of Representatives to revert Ninoy Aquino International Airport (NAIA) to its old name, Manila International Airport (MIA).
Lawyer Larry Gadon, who also filed an impeachment complaint against ousted Chief Justice Maria Lourdes Sereno, said NAIA should be renamed, and added that Ninoy Aquino was a liar and traitor who helped the Communist Party of the Philippines and the New People’s Army in the 1960s.
“Maraming katraydoran na ginawa si Ninoy, kaya hindi siya dapat tawaging bayani, siya ay isang huwad na bayani. Si Ninoy ay isang traydor sa bayan,” Gadon said at a news conference on Friday.
Gadon expressed optimism that both the Lower and Upper Chamber will agree with his petition.
“Ako ay naniniwala na yung mga kongresista at Senado ay papayag dito sa aking petisyon sapagkat ito naman ay makatwiran,” Gadon said.
Another petition was also submitted to the Office of the President on May 8.
Under the petition, Gadon explained that according to the Revised Guidelines on the Naming and Renaming of Streets, Public Schools, Plazas, Building, Bridges and other Public Structures, no public space should be named or renamed after a person who died within 10 years.
He also stated that the airport should not be named after Aquino since he was never elected to presidency.
“Pangalawa, walang dahilan na palitan ito ng pangalan ni Ninoy sapagkat yung Manila International Airport, ‘yan ang premier gateway ng Philippines sa buong mundo,” Gadon said.
The lawyer also accused Aquino of faking the 1968 Jabidah massacre of Moro soldiers by the Armed Forces of the Philippines.
Meanwhile, former president Noynoy Aquino, son of Ninoy Aquino, did not give any comment on the issue but said Gadon is only trying to revise history with his petition.
Akbayan spokesperson, Gio Tingson, in a statement said Gadon’s role in the Duterte administration is to distract the public on the real issues of the administration.
“Matagal nang malinaw ang papel ni Gadon sa Administrasyong ito. Kitang-kita na siya ay isang dakilang panggulo lamang,” Tingson said.
“Kung seseryosohin ng pamahalaang ito ang anumang galaw niya, halata na ang kanilang plano– hatiin ang sambayanan at sirain ang kasaysayan.”
