Some private hospitals mull halt of Philhealth services amid unsettled gov’t debt

The Private Hospitals Association of the Philippines Inc. (PHAPI) warned that some of its private hospital members may stop offering PhilHealth services to the public as government debt continues to remain unpaid.

PHAPI President Rustico said the government still owes some 60 private hospitals for their service to PhilHealth members.

This has led some private hospitals to consider discontinuing their membership with PhilHealth.

“Siguro, discredit nalang kasi ‘yung mga hospital na hindi kaya na mag-survive, tatanggal muna kami sa PhilHealth,” Jimenez told GMA News.

In an earlier interview, Jimenez said government’s debt towards private hospitals now amounts to Php700-million.

“Ang kinatatakot ho dito ay ‘yung maliliit (na ospital), because they will not survive,” he said.

Philhealth EVP-COO Ruben John Basa promised to hasten processing of needed documents to ensure that debts will be settled as soon as possible.

“We have also instituted measures within PhilHealth to ensure that the claims would be paid within 30 days. We would be able to address these concerns hopefully within the next couple of months,” Basa said.
