LOOK: Philippines’ first resort-inspired airport terminal to open in June

The Department of Transportation (DOTr) announced that the Philippines’ first resort airport terminal will be opening its doors in June, a month earlier than its initial intended opening.

Terminal 2 of the Mactan Cebu International Airport (MCIA) which has been dubbed as the “World’s Friendliest Resort Airport”, aims to lessen congestion of passengers and showcase Filipino creativity, ingenuity, and hospitality through its architectural designs inspired by Cebu’s rich culture and heritage.

Upon arrival, tourists and passengers will catch a glimpse of the Cebuano culture through the terminal’s design which seeks to convey the residents’ warm welcome.

“We create the first and last impressions visitors make of Cebu and the rest of the country and thus we want to create a worthy impression for everyone. Not only will the new terminal look distinctly Filipino, it will also be a complete experience of Filipino hospitality the moment you set foot here,” GMR-Megawide Cebu Airport Corporation President Louie Ferrer said.

“This airport is more than a transfer point. We are making it a vital part of the Cebu experience,” Ferrer said.

With the addition of a new airport terminal, MCIA also welcomed six airline companies including Air Juan, Juneyao Air, OK Air, Lucky Air, Sichuan Airlines, and Pan Pacific Airlines.
