ABU DHABI:  The Philippine Global School in Abu Dhabi was recently chosen as one of the recipient schools of Lahum’s scholarship grants. The grant will cover the tuition fee of the chosen student/s for a whole year.

Lahum was the brainchild of by Emirati social entrepreneur Ameera Amir who explained that she launched a sustainable social enterprise that collects donated clothes and resells them to fund for the education of young students in the UAE. “Lahum in Arabic means ‘for them’ with ‘them’ being the children. The logo is a shopping cart with a heart and infinity logo which means ‘carrying love infinitely for them’ (the children). That’s why our tag line is ‘Shop Lahum, Support Education’ so that’s ‘Shop for them, Support Education,’” said Amir.

The Philippine Ladies Circle (PLC) served as the link between Lahum Foundation and The Philippine Global School by way of Mme Yoko Ramos-Vingno, PLC chair. “Ameera is a living example of the values that Sheikh Zayed has imparted to the UAE by following his legacy,” said Vingno.

Amir adds that Lahum started in 2018 in the Year of Zayed, carrying out Sheikh Zayed’s wisdom by building on human capacity through education and sustainability. “Our vision is an eco-friendly world where children have access to education. We promote recycling, rethinking, and reusing and take the proceeds and support education – it’s two causes in one,” said Amir.

Lizabeth Comia, The Philippine Global School principal said this will be a big help for the students and their parents. “It’s a great honor for the school to be chosen as one of the 10 schools as the recipient of the scholarship grant by Lahum. They can assist deserving students to be a part of the scholarship,” said Comia.

Interested individuals who want to either donate clothes or shop for clothes may go to Lahum’s shop located at Masdar Park in Masdar City open from 5pm to 9pm except Sundays.
