Angry patient stabs OFW nurse in Saudi

An overseas Filipino worker (OFW) nurse in Madinah, Saudi Arabia was stabbed by his patient on Thursday, May 17 while on shift.

ER nurse Rolando Mina sustained three stab wounds on his left arm and another on his right arm. He is currently receiving treatment in the intensive care unit of the hospital where he works.

In an interview with GMA News, Mina said he was busy with work when the male patient approached and stabbed him.

“Nung una po ay hindi ako naka-react, akala ko ay sinusuntok lang ako kaya sinasalag ko po. Hindi ko alam na may hawak na siyang patalim that time. Hindi ko po nararamdaman ang mga saksak niya sa akin kasi parang manipis po ang ginamit niyang panaksak,” Mina said.

His colleagues were quick to stop the incident and give the OFW proper treatment.

Mina cannot remember where he met the patient but reports stated that the patient was apparently annoyed for not receiving his medicine.

The Filipino victim explained that hospital protocol requires patients to present a prescription from a doctor before they can obtain their medicine.

Philippine Consul General in Jeddah Edgar Badajos said the patient has been apprehended hours after the incident.

Badajos added that Mina’s case was an isolated incident.
