DOLE orders PLDT to regularize 7,306 employees

The Department of Labor and Employment has junked on Thursday, May 3, the appeal of PLDT to reverse its earlier decision that ordered the company to regularize 7,306 workers.

The DOLE said they dismissed the appeal of PLDT including 35 of its contractors for lack of merit, while those of 4 other contractors were granted.

Labor chief Silvestre Bello III upheld DOLE’s decision dated January 10, which also instructs the company to give Php51.6 million in benefits to its employees.

DOLE’s move comes days after President Rodrigo Duterte signed an executive order to stop end of contractualization or “endo”.

In July last year, DOLE ordered PLDT to regularize some 9,000 employees and pay nearly Php80 million in workers benefits.

PLDT contested the order and filed an appeal, citing the labor department’s “disregard” of evidence” and “erroneous computation” of unpaid benefits.
