OFWs react to age limit for aspiring cops

Many overseas Filipino workers (OFWs) raised their eyebrows over the age requirement for applicants seeking to be part of the Philippine National Police (PNP).

Earlier this week, PNP Chief Director General Oscar Albayalde said the PNP is ready to accept returning OFWs who wish to become a member of the police force.

Albayalde said OFW applicants need to undergo the same assessment procedures like other aspiring cops.

OFWs need to meet the qualifications, minimum requirement, and pass the entrance examination to be administered by the National Police Commission.

However, some of the minimum requirements, particularly that of age limit, seemed to be problematic for OFWs.

According to the PNP, an applicant must not be less than 21 and not more than 30 years old.

Some OFWs said most of them are already over 30 years old after years spent working overseas.

While some noticed the ‘problematic’ age requirement for aspiring applicants of the PNP, one noted that OFWs are perfect candidates to become part of the police force.
