DFA begins house-to-house rescue operations in Kuwait as amnesty program nears deadline

The Department of Foreign Affairs (DFA) has conducted house-to-house rescue operations in Kuwait to rescue overseas Filipino workers (OFWs) allegedly abused by their employers.

The Rapid Rescue Team (RRT) under the DFA rescued OFWs amid the nearing deadline of the amnesty program.

In a video showing two separate rescue operations, officials of the DFA inside a vehicle await an OFW as she escapes the home of her employer.

According to RRT, the team visits the address given by OFWs who seek rescue from his or her abusive employers. The team then asks the employers to free the OFW.

However, in cases where OFWs have visible wounds and contusions, the team calls the Kuwaiti police and the Embassy to carry out the rescue of Filipino workers.

RRT clarified that in instances where help is needed as soon as possible, they carry out rescue operations themselves.

The DFA has likewise assured the public it will continue its intensified efforts to protect the welfare of OFWs there.
