Many overseas Filipino workers (OFWs) continue to arrive in the Philippines from Kuwait as the deadline for the amnesty program offered by the Gulf state’s government for undocumented OFWs nears.
On Monday, April 16, some 190 undocumented Filipinos from the said country arrived at the Ninoy Aquino International Airport at past 6 in the morning, reported GMA News.
“Delikado po sapagkat ‘yung overstaying po at matagal po na walang visa. ‘Yan po ay isang kriminal na kaso po ‘yan sa Kuwait,” said lawyer Brigido Dulay, OWWA deputy administrator for operations.
“Kami po ay nakikiusap na iwasan na po natin na mahuli pa po tayo diyan,” Dulay said.
Earlier, Foreign Affairs Undersecretary for Migrant Workers Affairs Sarah Lou Arriola said more than 6,000 undocumented Filipinos in Kuwait have yet to register for the program.
“We appeal to our kababayans in Kuwait to heed our advice and register for repatriation as soon as possible,” Arriola said.
She reminded illegal OFWs that failure to register to the program may result in arrest, detention, and deportation by the Kuwaiti authorities.
More than 4,000 Filipinos in Kuwait have availed of the program, which ends on April 22.
