WhatsApp update allows users to download deleted pictures, videos

The new WhatsApp update now allows Android users to download deleted media files including photos and videos.

Technology website WABetaInfo said the feature to download deleted media files like images, videos, GIFs, voice messages and documents is available for WhatsApp versions 2.18.106 and 2.18.110.

Previous versions of the messaging application automatically deletes the media files once the recipient downloads the file. With the new version, users now have the chance to re-download the file in cases when they delete the files by accident.

Tests showed images sent three months prior are still downloadable. The feature, however, does not work for files sent earlier than August 2017.

Moreover, to be able to access the feature, the sender should not delete the message that comes with the file. If the sender has manually deleted the message, the file will be no longer be accessible for the recipient.
