UAE to grant one-day entry visa for transit visitors

The UAE Cabinet has approved a policy granting entry visa for transit visitors who wish to visit the country’s tourist attractions and landmarks.

The move was done to boost tourism in the country by allowing stopover passengers in any airport in the emirates to roam around the country for a day, WAM reported.

The decision comes after the Cabinet formed a working group, led by the Federal Authority for Identity and Citizenship, to “propose a new general policy for transit visas in the UAE to promote the tourism sector and enhance local economy, as well to grant transit passengers the opportunity to explore UAE’s world-renowned attractions.”

Last year, 70 percent of the total number of aviation passengers were transit passengers. This led the Cabinet to utilize this market to boost tourism and economy in the country.
