No more sale of electronics without warranty in UAE starting July

Selling electronic products, including appliances and gadgets, without warranty is no longer allowed in the UAE starting July 2018.

This is the recent directive of the Department of Consumer Protection as confirmed by the Ministry of Economy, which stressed that no further grace periods will be granted to companies to implement it, reported Emarat Al Youm.

The ministry also emphasized that the selling of electronic products without warranty for re-exporting or for use outside of the country is still up to the resellers and consumers given that they will be held responsible for any of its consequences.

On the other hand, consumers and re-sellers are asking that the sale of electronics without warranty, especially mobile phones, be extended, and to allow them to be sell these for use outside the country and for re-export purposes, stressing that non-warranty products are cheaper.

Dr. Hashim Al Nuaimi, Director of Consumer Protection Department, Ministry of Economy, would take effect immediately on July.

The decision aims to protect consumers and provide them with safe products, he added.
