Boracay closure begins April 26th

In a tweet by Presidential Spokesperson Harry Roque, it simply mentions that the 6 month closure of Boracay will begin later this month, at 26th of April.

Earlier, the inter-agency task force assigned for the closure of Boracay has submitted a “more detailed” recommendation as per Senior Deputy Executive Secretary Menardo Guevarra.

In a report from SunStar, Duterte was urged by the task force to close Boracay to tourists temporarily to start the rehabilitation efforts to bring back the natural beauty and state of the world famous island. The task force is composed of the local government department along with representatives from the Environment and Tourism departments.

The move comes from Duterte’s decision last Feb. 9 as he mentioned that the place has become a “cesspool” and that the country needed to look for ways to put an end to Boracay’s environmental problems.
