Butchered shark parts caught being sold in El Nido

Butched shark parts were caught being sold in El Nido, Palawan in a photo shared on the social media page of the Marine Wildlife Watch of the Philippines.

According from the Palawan Council for Sustainable Development (PCSD), sharks are usually killed for their “shark’s fin”. Once the shark’s fin has been cut off, the remains of the shark are thrown back to the sea. However, there are still some who retrieve the cadaver to earn money out of it.

Republic Act 9147 or the Wildlife Resources Conservation and Protection Act prohibits killing and selling sharks and other endangered species. PSCD has already planned to investigate the incident to pinpoint and arrest those behind the illegal activities.
