Oman suspends issuance of visa to foreign workers in several sectors

The Sultanate of Oman has suspended issuance of visa to foreign migrant workers in 87 professions and 10 employment sectors.

According to the Philippine Overseas Employment Administration (POEA), the Oman Ministry of Manpower (MoM) released Ministerial Decision 38/2018 on January 24 stating the suspension of authorization to hire foreign workers as part of its nationalization policy in the private sector to provide 25,000 jobs to Omani citizens.

“Until July 24, 2018, the Ministry of Manpower will not process work visas for the listed positions as the government assesses the impact of the policy on its citizens and possible benefits to the economy within suspension period,” said DOLE in a statement.

Work visas issued before January 24, however, will remain valid until its date of expiration.
