Here’s when you can catch cherry blossoms in Japan

The cherry blossom season is taken very seriously in Japan, as it is something that has been celebrated for hundreds of years.

This year, the cherry blossom season is forecasted to open on an earlier date as the cold winter temperature during the first week of March made the buds develop faster.

The full bloom is expected to be about one week after the flowering day, which means it will be 3 to 6 days earlier than the average in the whole country nationwide.

Several travel guides in Japan have already released the estimated best viewing days to see those white- and rose-colored flowers bloom.

In the major countries of Japan, namely Tokyo, Kyoto, Osaka, Nagoya, and Fukuoka, the cherry blossom season is expected to open from March 19 to March 21. The estimated best viewing dates in those cities are scheduled from March 27 to April 4.

The Japan Weather Association has also released the full forecast and schedule of the cherry blossom season in other cities in Japan and it can be viewed here.
