Trillanes backs suggestion for Duterte to undergo psychiatric test

Senator Antonio Trillanes IV supports the suggestion of the United Nations (UN) human rights chief that President Rodrigo Duterte should take a psychiatric evaluation.

Trillanes said that Duterte should undergo evaluations “for the sake of the safety and the well-being” of the country.

“His murderous and erratic ways plus his crass, twisted, and perverted statements are indicative of a deeply sick mind. Hindi ‘yan normal na pag-iisip, lalo na ng isang Filipino,” Trillanes said on Sunday

The statement from the senator was made following comments from UN Human Rights Chief Zeid Ra’ad Al Hussein that Duterte should be evaluated on a psychological level.

“It makes one believe that the president of the Philippines needs to submit himself to some sort of psychiatric evaluation,” Zeid said.

The majority group in Senate, however, believes that the comment from Zeid was “uncalled for”.

“Isn’t he supposed to have a higher level of education, demeanor? Sixteen million people voted for [Duterte], as part of our democracy. It’s insulting coming from someone who isn’t even Filipino. It wasn’t right for him to say that,” said Senator Panfilo Lacson.
