Pia Ranada blocked from covering Duterte outside Malacanang

Rappler reporter Pia Ranada was barred from covering an event in Pasay City on Tuesday that President Rodrigo Duterte attended as the guest of honor.

In a Facebook live video that was posted on Rappler’s page, Ranada said that the organizers of the Go Negosyo 10th Filipina Entrepreneurship Summit at World Trade Center told her that the event was off-limit for Rappler.

“I was told by the Go Negosyo staff at the registration that my name wasn’t … on the list of the MPC [Malacañang Press Corps] members, and I continue to question the order until the staff from Malacañang, specifically the Media Accreditation and Relations Office, approached me to say that I’m not allowed to enter or to cover the event,” Ranada said in the video.

“And I asked if this order only covered me and apparently it does. It covers only Rappler. It covers only me being the Rappler reporter assigned to Malacañang,” she added.

A few weeks ago, Ranada was also barred by the Presidential Security Group from entering Malacanang and covering its events.

Aside from being blocked from the covering the event in Pasay City, a lady manning the reception table also allegedly refused to give Randa a copy of any press release, saying the reporter did not have an ID for the event.
