10 Asians nabbed for mobile phone promo scam

The Abu Dhabi Police nabbed ten Asian who posed as representatives of a telecommunications (telecom) company in the UAE to scam victims.

According to director of external regions’ police Brigadier Rashid Mubarak Al Mesmari, the suspects would tell their unsuspecting victims that their phone numbers had been randomly selected in a prize drawn by the telecom company.

The suspects would then ask money from them through various ways, either through money remittance or phone credits.

The suspects were apprehended after multiple victims reported the scam to the Al Rahba police station.

During the arrest, the police were able to recover forged documents, phones, sim cards, and other devices that the suspects used to dupe their victims.

Abu Dhabi Police encouraged mobile phone users to be more cautious of mobile phone fraudsters.

They also reminded the public to report any suspicious activities through mobile phones, especially if a caller or message sender would introduce promotional campaigns.
