Rescued OFW debunks reports of her toenail forcibly removed by employers

Overseas Filipina worker (OFW) who reportedly had her toenails removed by her employers clarified that the reports were false and that her toenails were torn by accident.

OFW Marjorie Lizada recounted that her employer’s child accidentally stepped on her foot, reported GMA News.

Despite this, Lizada maintained that she was physically and sexually abused by her employer.

Lizada is currently in the custody of Philippine Overseas Labor Office (POLO) and Overseas Workers Welfare Administration (OWWA).

“Okay naman po ako dito. Wala na pong problema. Natulungan na po ako ng OWWA at the POLO,” Lizada said.

Lizada was rescued after Kuwaiti authorities ordered her employers to bring her to the police station.

“‘Yung ating mga kasamahang augmentation team went to the police to seek assistance para makuha sa second employer si Marjorie Lizada, and successfully nakuha naman nila ito,” said acting labor attache Nestor Burayag.

The OFW was rescued last week following release of reports of her being abused by her employers.

Lizada’s employer, according to her cousin, sold her to other families twice and that her employers forcibly removed her toenails.
