OFW who alleged that her employer forcibly removed her toenails is now safe

Overseas Workers Welfare Administration (OWWA) confirmed Tuesday evening that the overseas Filipino worker (OFW) who was reportedly suffering from sexual and physical abuse in Kuwait has been rescued.

OWWA administrator Hans Leo Cacdac said that OFW Marjorie Lizada is now in good condition and is in touch with her family. Cacdac added that Lizada’s exit papers from Kuwait are currently being processed.

Reports released yesterday, February 27, stated that Lizada told her family about the sexual and physical abuse she was suffering from the hands of her employers a few months into her employment in the Gulf state.

Lizada’s employer, according to her cousin, also sold her to other families twice and that her employers forcibly removed her toenails.

The Filipina maid said she couldn’t leave since her employers threatened to kill her if she decided to escape.

“Sinasabihan ko siya na takas na siya ‘pag may chance siya. Sabi niya, ‘Wala talaga, ‘te, dahil lahat ng pinto dito naka-lock,” her cousin said.
