Driver hired on Facebook steals employer’s car; claims he only wants to feel rich

A driver who stole his employer’s’ car, 10 days after he was hired on Facebook, was arrested by Pasay Police.

The suspect, Gary Bunag, was caught in a CCTV footage stealing his employers’ sports utility vehicle (SUV) last February 16.

According to Pasay Police, the suspect may have seen an opportunity to steal the car when his employers went abroad. The police were able to retrieve the car which was also being sold by the suspect on social media at Php500,000.

The suspect he did not take the car to steal it but rather to use the car for “strolling”.

“Feeling mayaman ka kapag nandoon ka. Kahit gusgusin ka, pagbaba mo, mayaman ang dating mo,” Bunag told ABS-CBN News.

S/Supt. Noel Flores discouraged employers to hire people whom they only saw on the internet saying, “Hindi natin alam kung ano ‘yung karakter talaga ng tao.”

Flores also reminded employers to do background checks before hiring someone.

“Dapat may mga referral ‘yan, dapat mag background investigation, ‘yung profile niya saan galing.”
