Advocacy group urges Du30 to consider 6-point action plan

DUBAI: An international advocacy group for migrant workers concern has urged President Duterte to implement a six-point action plan that would ensure the protection of Filipinos working abroad.

In a statement released to media, Engr. Yusoph T. Admain chairman of the OFWs and Migrants Policy Institute for Development, said that in light of recent developments in the region, the Philippine president may consider:

• Commencing bilateral talks with Kuwait over reported cases of suicides, contract violations and abuse.

• Immediate augmentation of legal and welfare officers as well as hiring of former overseas Filipino workers (OFWs) to improve the ratio of embassy personnel per OFW population in the host country.

• Hiring of highly trained Arabic translators and in-house lawyers familiar with the laws and policies of the host government.

• Monitoring and periodic counselling of household service workers as well as engage their individual employers in mutual dialogues.

• Evaluating and replacing inefficient and uncaring personnel at the Philippine embassies and consulates.

• Enhancing reintegration programs and rationalizing the procedures for easy accessibility. (JD)
