600 distressed OFWs from Kuwait expected to arrive Wednesday

Six hundred overseas Filipino workers (OFW) from Kuwait are expected to come home  today at the Ninoy Aquino International Airport under the Philippine government’s repatriation program.

At 8:29 a.m, a batch of 180 have arrived home at  Wednesday via Philippine Airlines flight 669, according to GMA News.

Representatives from the from the Department of Foreign Affairs, Overseas Workers Welfare Administration (OWWA) and the Department of Social Welfare and Development welcomed and assisted the repatriates with immigration documentation processes qualify them for the government’s “Balik-bansa” livelihood assistance program.

The Philippine government will give P5,000 to each returning OFW as initial assistance.

Meanwhile, those who have no place to stay in Metro Manila will be temporarily sheltered by OWWA, which will also shoulder the transportation expenses of the repatriates.

Batches of distressed OFWs from Kuwait have been arriving home after President Rodrigo Duterte’s order to impose a total ban on the deployment of Filipino workers to Kuwait.
