Trillanes renews claim vs Pres. Duterte, daughter’s ‘ill-gotten wealth’

Senator Antonio Trillanes IV Trillanes has filed a resolution today, February 5, 2018, to ask the Senate committee on banks, financial institutions and currencies to probe into the bank accounts of President Rodrigo Duterte and Davao City Mayor Sara Duterte-Carpio.

In the Senate Resolution 602, Trillanes cited the alleged undeclared bank records of the President and his daughter amounting to more than P500,000 in their Statements of Assets, Liabilities, and Net worth (SALN), as per the documents obtained by the VERA Files from the Anti-Money Laundering Council (AMLC), reported ABS-CBN News.

Trillanes urged the Senate to look into the possible violation of the president and his daughter in the AMLC.

Trillanes’ decision to file a resolution came after he was challenged by the President to conduct an investigation on supposed ‘ill-gotten’ wealth of their family last January 24 before the latter left for India.

“That is why I want the Congress to proceed. Mag-imbestiga kayo. As a matter of fact ako ‘yung mismo nag-i-insist para malaman ninyo ‘yung totoo… It’s about time that magharapan tayo. Wala kayong makakalkal sa akin.”

“With this resolution, I am accepting President Duterte’s challenge to investigate his alleged ill-gotten wealth to once and for all reveal the truth on this issue. The public wants to know the truth and it’s in the hands of the Senate to uncover it,” Trillanes added.

The suspension of Overall Deputy Ombudsman Melcor Carandang for releasing the bank documents of Duterte from AMLC, the senator said, prompted him to file a resolution.

“And now, despite Duterte’s continued denial of existence of his alleged undeclared wealth, he suspended Overall Deputy Ombudsman Melcor Carandang for supposedly releasing his bank documents from AMLC. What is there to leak when they deny such documents being released by AMLC?,” he added.

Meanwhile, Presidential spokesperson Harry Roque considered the move of Trillanes as an “old news” stressing that the accusations are all unauthenticated.
