Good conduct certificate for expats applying for job in UAE takes into effect

The new UAE Cabinet Resolution that requires aspiring job seekers in the UAE to obtain “Good Conduct and Behaviour Certificate” as a main condition to receive a work visa has taken into effect February 4, 2018.

A good conduct and behavior certificate is a requirement for employers to ensure that the applicant has no substantial criminal record.

The document only applies to the applicants and not to their dependents. Tourist visa applicants are also excluded from the requirement.

The new mandatory certificate which must be presented before employment should be issued from the applicant’s home country and be certified by the UAE’s missions abroad.

In a previous interview with The Filipino Times Online, Labor Secretary Silvestre Bello III explained that the said certificate is not part of an existing bilateral agreement with the UAE government and the government is yet to issue an advisory as to where Filipinos can get this certificate.

The Filipino Times has sought updates from Sec. Bello on how the new certificate will affect OFWs in the UAE, but has yet to get a response.
