OWWA Davao reveals top complaints filed by OFWs

The Overseas Workers Welfare Administration (OWWA) regional office in Davao has responded to a total of 1,183 complaints that were filed by overseas Filipino workers in the year 2017.

Carmelo T. Elaya, officer-in-charge of OWWA’s regional office in Davao, said that they have received complaints from 185 male OFWs and 998 female OFWs, and all of them were served.

Most of the complaints that were filed involved maltreatment, sexual abuse, unpaid salaries, request for repatriation due to sickness and financial support.

Elaya also said that OWWA-Davao has an annual target of assisting 700 workers. They have surpassed that number by responding to 1,183 complaints.

Out of the nearly 1,200 complaints the regional office has received, 674 were resolved.

In 2017, 1.28 million OFWs were deployed to work in different parts of the world.
