Duterte nominates former UAE ambassador as envoy to Vatican

President Rodrigo Duterte nominated former ambassador to the United Arab Emirates Grace Relucio-Princesa as the country’s new envoy to the Holy See.

Known as “Nanay Amba,” Princesa had spent 20 years in the Philippine diplomatic service including being the first female ambassador to the UAE, reported Business Mirror.

Nanay Amba was a recipient of The Filipino Times Lifetime Achievement Award in 2015.

After her stint as an ambassador, she was appointed as the assistant secretary of the Department of Foreign Affairs (DFA).

Bishop Ruperto Santos, Chairman of the Catholic Bishops’ Conferences of the Philippines (CBCP) Episcopal Commission on Migrants and Itinerant People, believes that Princesa would be a great addition to look after the Filipinos in Vatican.

“Nanay Amba is very known to our OFWs in UAE where she was posted before. She has her heart for OFWs, truly caring and working for their well-being,” Santos said.

Princesa’s nomination is still subject for approval by the bicameral Commission on Appointments.
