Kuwait tackles OFW ban with PH envoy

The Foreign Ministry of Kuwait summoned Philippines ambassador Renato Pedro Villa last Sunday, January 21.

Deputy Foreign Minister Khaled Sulaiman Al-Jarallah and other foreign minister officials notified Villa that their government regrets the ban of the deployment of overseas Filipino workers (OFW).

According to the ministry’s officials, this decision “contradicts the nature of the distinctive ties between the two countries and does not serve their common interests,” reported Kuwait News Agency.

Despite President Rodrigo Duterte’s order, the foreign officials of Kuwait asked the Philippines envoy if he could ask the Philippines government to lift the ban.

Villa lauded the ministry’s effort to discuss the issue personally, and smoothen the ties between the two countries after the said ban.
