Taxi driver nabbed after beating transport officer in Abu Dhabi

A Pakistani man is facing charges for beating a transport officer and illegally transporting passengers in Abu Dhabi.

According to investigation, the transport officer chased the driver after noticing that he was carrying a lot of passengers in his car. The officer asked the driver to stop, confronted him, and fined him for the illegal operation.

The accused, however, did not oblige and tried to escape the scene, reported Khaleej Times.

Authorities managed to catch the accused and is now facing charges on illegal taxi services and assaulting a transport inspector.

In his defense, the driver said he was not transporting passengers and that he was just carrying his friends. He also denied meeting and beating the officer.

The trial was adjourned until February.

The department of transport has alerted the public regarding the illegal taxi drivers who were charging more than the usual amount of fare. Anybody who will be caught operating illegally will be fined Dh10,000 (P138,057.98) and will be imprisoned up to 30 days.
