Asteroid larger than Burj Khalifa headed toward Earth

An enormous asteroid is set to hurtle past the planet Earth on February 4, 2018, according to The National Aeronautics and Space Administration (NASA).

The asteroid 2002 AJ129 is around 0.07 miles wide (1.1km), as per NASA, making it longer than the world’s tallest building Burj Khalifa in Dubai which stands at 0.5 miles (0.8km).

The asteroid is set to past safely on Earth at a speed of 76,000 mph (34 kilometers per second), and will be ‘no closer than 10 times distance between Earth and the Moon’ (4.2 million kilometers).

Asteroid 2002 AJ129 was first discovered on Jan. 15, 2002 at the Maui Space Surveillance Site on Haleakala, Hawaii.

Despite being categorized as a ‘Potentially Hazardous Asteroid’, authorities assure that there is zero chance of it colliding with the Earth.
